I wasn't impressed. The food was expensive ($13 for 2 of us). It tasted sub-par. The girl taking our order didn't know exactly how to ring us up, so that was annoying. They serve French fries with their meals.. Not sure how I feel about that... For about $3 more, I could have gotten a delicious meal at Pancho's including the tip. I'll skip this place next time.

A nice change from The Bell. Bean and cheese burrito is superior to Bell's, its the green sauce rather than red. Nachos not as good, can't beat that Bell nacho sauce. Do try the deep fried Jalapeno Pepper rings, a powerful mouth-burning pleasure; tho the sauce would be better if it were sour cream based rather than mayo based. Cheese Quesadillas is simple but good on the go. I liked their tostada, mini and manageable. A vegetarian's delight with lots of variety. I found the service good, the girl catching everything I rattled off. Did not get sauce that I ask for, so re-ask at the window.

Fast Food Mexican on the Cheap! I really like this place for a few reasons - l will give one star for each: 1) Food is tasty! I like the cheaper items like 3 Tacos for $1.29 on Tuesdays or three chicken Tacos for $2.49 on Thursday as a start. I then add whatever they have on special like a delicious fish taco for free with purchase of a beverage if you like them on Facebook. I have had their fresh fries, nachos, and 5 layer burrito which were all good. Walk out satisfied for under $5. 2) Food is inexpensive - see point 1 3) Owners care about community and do a lot for several local charities! This is something that Lori the General Manager is passionate about - she lit up when talking to my about a animal shelter charity they were promoting. 4) Place is clean or being cleaned constantly. 5) Free wifi! The only bummers about this place is that there are only blowers in the bathroom to dry your hands and occasionally people camp out in the single bathroom stall for what seems like an eternity. Let's get one near Ann Arbor! Looking forward to some chicken soft tacos as I write this, so I know I will be back!

I love Del Taco. Its the same love i have for White Castle (that's a warning not a compliment). I used to make this terrible 1.5 hr drive home and this Del Taco was on the way. The problem is that i would get so consumed in the over terriblness of rush hour and Dearborn and would end up driving by Del Taco 9 out of 10 times. BUT WHEN I REMEMBER TO GET ALL THE WAY OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE WHEN HEADING NORTH ON TELEGRAPH IT WAS ABSOLUTE GLORY. I would order my 10 tacos for a total of something like 1.75 and stop all my hanger (Google hangery).

This place is great for fast food Mexican. My California hubby used to come here all the time back home and this is the only place in the area to feed his food cravings for fast food tacos. Now if they would build an El Pollo Loco and an In N Out out here he would be exponentially happier but this manages to soothe him somewhat. He is a spicy chicken burrito guy. It is his top item here. I prefer the crispy fish tacos with the crunchy cabbage, pico and secret sauce all wrapped up in corn tortillas with a wedge of lime, small size but lots of flavor. We also both like the big fat chicken tacos with the ancho chile sauce on pillowy flat bread but not as much. The tacos del carbon are decent but also small and street taco sized, if you get them though ask for some lime and extra cilantro. I've never been with James when he has eaten a burger here but he claims he does and that they are good. I skip the fries and get the chips with pico or guac instead if I am combo-ing but James loves the fries. You also might want to try the crispy fried jalapeno rings with the secret sauce for something different. James likes the steak burritos for breakfast and also recommends the bacon and egg quesadilla with his fave green sauce. James likes the strawberry shakes here but I never get any dessert. The new caramel cheesecake bites are tempting me though. All in all way better than Taco Bell and a nice surprise for fast food.

I've always been a fan of tacos. There never was a very good fast food place to get good tacos, until Del Taco came into my life. :) The food is amazingly, good, filling and cheap. I live in A2 but travel to Deerborn to get my Taco Fix.. LOL. Caramel Cheesecakes bites and 2 Deluxe tacos make it worth it. LOL stay hungry my friends..

Much better than Taco Bell, and much cheaper for what we get. We normally get the hard tacos($0.49), the burritos(also only $0.49), or the nachos and cheese. It's nice that they have other options for when we all can't agree on what we want for dinner. The fries are crinkle cut, and not bad. I have never gotten a burger, but my son seems to like them. The churro's are delicious, and blow taco bell's cinnamon crisps out of the water. Once again, much better than taco bell for cheap, somewhat mexican fast food.

I just recently decided to check out this location because I pass it all the time heading to HFCC and I love ameri-mex food. I'd never had it before but I frequent Taco Bell quite often. Since I've only eaten there once and only tried one thing, I guess my review won't be too fair...I ordered 2 tacos deluxe that had sour cream and salsa on them, otherwise a regular taco. And they tasted EXACTLY like Taco Bell. Nothing exciting in the flavor of the meat, the salsa or the little packets of hot sauce. And apparently they also sell hamburgers??? Weird....It was tasty, not gonna lie and slightly cheaper than Taco Bell. But so far, I'm still not convinced of it's apparent awesomeness.

Used to think this place was good when they first opened. Now I realize that their food is pretty bad. Their tortillas have a really weird rubbery taste and texture to them. Everything just tastes like mush, worse than Taco Bell. They make a lot of noise about their shredded beef filling but it has zero taste to me. Their combo meal combinations make no sense at all. The burgers are really small and really messy. Three things keep me from giving them one star instead of two: 1) I give them props for offering french fries with burritos and tacos because it is a strange thing to do and I applaud strange, 2) the "macho" size drinks come in plastic cups that can be easily reused as party cups, and 3) their breakfast burrito is actually pretty good. But, it is really one star food. To make it even remotely tasty I end up blasting it with as much hot sauce as possible so in the end I'm paying money for untasty food when I could get the same taste just slurping the salsa straight.

Forgive me Father for I have sinned. One of the music directors I work with for major church holidays took a new position in Garden City so now for several days during the Christmas and Easter season I drive down Ford Road to get to that handy Southfield Freeway. Every time I drive past Del Taco I think gluttonous thoughts. It's delicious (for what it is) and a rarer treat than the more prevalent Taco Bell; somehow being able to get a burrito after spending multiple hours of church makes the commute home better. I have been through the drive thru and inside the restaurant and can report excellent service regardless of how my order was placed. I can attest that they close early on Christmas Eve. . . I suppose I can't blame them but after Midnight Mass nothing sounds better than some cheap Tex-Mex and a Mr. Pibb. Alas. I would highly recommend the 1/2 Bean Burrito with the verde salsa (I think it's more of a sauce). It's simple but always tastes fresh consisting of beans, cheese and sauce (either red or green). I also enjoy their Spicy Jack Quesadilla but would refrain if consuming while driving. . . it can be messy. Fries are crinkle cut. I think this locations food is basically like the other area Del Taco's which means that they have decent standards if regardless of the location the food maintains a certain level of tastosterone. Should tastosterone be a word? I am almost thinking yes. I will also say that their sauces are a little lacking; I would rather put ketchup on most of my food than their hot sauce. Then again, while driving French Fries are just easier naked--the fries not the driver. When I went into this restaurant I was also happy to flip through a photo album of the good workers of Del Taco volunteering at Christmas with kids or so it appeared. . . I am pro Del Taco, especially post Mass.

Hailing from Socal, I literally pulled off the road and did a U-turn at 330am upon hearing Del Taco had opened in Michigan. In California if someone suggests going to Taco Bell you spit at them. While on vacation in Cali, I would buy about 10 of my favorite items freeze them , and bring them on the plane to Michigan. There is no other Mex. fast food. FAVORITES: Del Beef Buritto, plain cheese quesadilla, breakfast buritto, egg and cheese buritto, CHURROS!!!!, and yes...Mr. Pibb

Way the hell better than the dog food they serve at taco hell! Their nachos burritos tacos all 100x better. They also have a great breakfast menu that they serve all day Bacon egg and cheese quesedillas very great and you can and eat and drive with those!

This place stinks.... Their food is rubbery. Ingredients arent even as fresh as Taco Bell which isnt saying much. They have fries on their menu? The only good thing is you can order chips and salsa as a substitute. This is probably one of the only places that has Mr. Pibb soft drinks. Kinda like Dr. Pepper. I've ordered their chicken taco's Del Carbon blaaaah I'll stick with my Taco Bell Chicken Soft Taco Fresco style...

I love Del Taco food. The Tacos Del Carbon with the double-wrap of corn tortilla and fresh cilantro are more like great Tijuana street food than fast food. I eat here EVERY time I am in Detroit. Their Steak and Egg breakfast burrito is the best fast food breakfast I can think of. PLEASE sell your salsa by the jar!

As others have mentioned, this is a slightly better version of Taco Bell aka Toxic Hell. Since I would give Taco Bell 1 star, I decided to give this chain 3 stars. I had the macho combo burrito. I can't identify any of the components that went into it except for refried beans. Basically, the same burrito experience I would have had at Taco Bell. Except that It tasted ok. I also had the tacos del carbon combo. Essentially what one would hope to find in a better Mexican restaurant. The tacos are soft tacos, pretty mealy texture. The steak one was good but the chicken one was only ok. I didn't really care for the crinkle cut fries. If you're starving and want some fast food Mexican, then this might be the place for you. If you can hold out to go to a real restaurant, you should probably do that. We shall see if this treats my colon better than Taco Bell.

When this location first opened, I went out of curiosity and hopefulness, because a Mexican American friend recommended it as a really good fast food restaurant. When I saw the menu, I was excited to see that they had fish tacos, because most of their competitors don't have this on their menus. Unfortunately, this place disappointed me right out of the gate. The fish tacos had the problem of having very little actual fish in them. And they got my order wrong. When I went up to the counter to try to get my order corrected, I was accused by the staff of lying in order to get free food even though I had my receipt showing what I ordered and showed them the food which I actually got. Eventually, the manager corrected the mistake. That bad first impression poisoned my attitude towards Del Taco for a while. Recently, I have given them another try. I am happy to say that the quality of service has improved over how it was when this place first opened. Each time, my orders were given to me correctly with no mistakes what so ever, and that includes this time. And the staff have been polite and friendly. On this trip, we went in and ordered two Spicy Grilled Chicken Burritos. They were nice and flavorful. The chicken meat chunks were tender and juicy. My wife also ordered their Epic Chicken Chipotle Ranch Burrito. She said that the flavor and the size met her expectations from seeing that it was called "Epic." And I ordered the Deluxe Turkey Taco Salad. They should make turkey one of their permanent meat options. It was tender, juicy and well seasoned. The salad had a nice balance of ingredients. My only complaints are that the guacamole and sour cream should have been on top of the salad and not off to the side within the taco shell. And the taco shell should be larger; so, the really flavorful taco salad can be bigger. In other words, it just made me want more of it. But overall, I think that this location is moving in a positive direction compared to when they first opened. They are winning me back.

Growing up with a family that cooked traditional Mexican cuisine, I am picky about my Tex Mex. That said Del Taco is a reasonably quick imitation of the food I grew up with. While it is not terribly authentic, in a pinch, it does the job. With few locations around the Metro-Detroit area, they have cheap, quick tacos that taste 100x better than Toxic Hell. They have everything ranging from breakfast tacos to overstuffed burritos, and all of them are reasonably inexpensive. This particular location does tend to be a little bit slow. I don't know why, but every time I come here the food takes longer than expected. When given the options of fast food in the area, I'm willing to wait a little bit longer.

  • Jared H.

Yes, I feel silly giving 5 stars and I know my California friends will think I'm crazy, but since moving to Michigan years ago and having only Taco Bell to satisfy cravings for Mexican fast food chains, I have missed Del Taco so much that I had to. Fresh ingredients, REAL chicken, and sauce so good that I have actually smuggled packages of it in luggage and had relatives buy it for me by the case (which amuses franchise managers who insist it isn't for sale - but, it helps to have connections). I was very excited a few years ago when they started opening locations in Michigan and, so far, they have not disappointed me. Admittedly, part of my attraction is nostalgic, but it really is also just great by fast food standards.

I posted the following comment on the Del Taco website as part of the guest survey prompt on today's receipt: I have been a loyal customer of this location almost since it opened. Given the frequency I used to visit, I can say without exaggeration that I've been there *thousands* of times. A few months ago, the focus of this store became to prepare managers and staff to open a new location in Livonia. The long-time general manager disappeared, and service and quality have plummetted to the point where I've actually been avoiding coming in. It's been clear that the regular employees and leadership team are miserable under the new organization. Today, your lazy cashier made it absolutely clear she did not want to be bothered to take my order, and when I commented on the poor service, she made a nasty remark to me. (In my anger, I can no longer recall exactly what she said.) I came back, and yelled into the office that this place has gone downhill since [the previous manager] left. The cashier then told me if I don't like the service, that I shouldn't come back. I assured her that I will never come back. I have unsubscribed from the Del Taco mailing list, unliked your page on Facebook, and will never eat at a Del Taco restaurant again. I have spent a lot of time and effort encouraging my friends and family to try Del Taco. I will now spend even more energy letting them know how dissatisfied I am with this location, and Del Taco in general. Your business is dead to me. Have a nice life. (I should add that nobody in the office made any effort to respond to my complaints.)

Experienced my first fish taco EVER at this location last night. Let me tell you I was not disappointed at all! A nice piece of golden beer battered fish between 2 corn tortillas with cabbage and pico de gallo....MMM HMM!! They also have a buck & below menu which is really cool for grabbing a taco with that change in your cup holder. $.70 for regular hard or soft tacos doesn't get much better than that. Their meat flavor also blows TBs out of the water. I will be returning soon and who knows, it maybe tonight :)

I've been to Del Taco many times as I've passed by and been in the mood for good take out Mexican fast food. It's always been as good or better than their local competitor TB. I like their tacos, including fish tacos and most burritos and the sauce the give you to supplement your food. On my most recent visit we went through the drive through and they didn't get the order quite right, but my biggest complaint was the chicken burrito special they offered which I didn't really care for. The burrito had too many different tastes going on and not much chicken. It's really the first item I didn't like there. I'm going to continue to visit as we happen by and we will see how it goes. Right now it's a solid three stars and I'll be back...

As far as fast food goes 4 stars for a somewhat healthier alternative to your normal burger and fries their carne asada steak tacos are good and there pico de Gayo is reasonable if you're not driving down to Mexican town aside from a few sporadic restaurants this will be your best bet and if its only a 30 minute lunch popping in here is a good alternative

Del Taco is my favorite fast food joint, but that's probably because I only eat there twice a year. A good menu with something for everyone, cheap tacos, spicy sauces, even burgers and fries. It's not perfect, but puts Taco Bell to shame. I just wish they would put one in Tennessee.

It has been a while since I made the mistake of getting a snack here, but I passed it while driving down Telegraph Rd. today and when I saw the sign again. I thought I should relate my experience here. First of all, this one bad experience, which is my only experience at this Del Taco location, might have been an aberration. I used to go to Del Taco when on business trips in California and I usually thought they were OK, and I especially liked grabbing a quick breakfast there before starting a long business day. But my one visit to the Dearborn Heights location was revolting. I had ordered a combo meal that contained a Spicy Chicken Burrito and a Soft Chicken Taco with Fries and a drink. The Taco was served on an uncooked (read white and raw) taco shell and the chicken was tough and stringy and the whole thing tasted like kitchen scraps. The Burrito mostly consisted of refried beans and those beans were loaded with grease. The so-called "Spicy" chicken, what there was of it, was not at all spicy and I used about four pouches of their hottest sauce to counteract the pasty and greasy refritos. It was supposed to have guacamole, but if it did, I missed it. The fries were fine and the drink was OK too. I know people like this place and I had liked Del Taco when I used to go there in both Northern and Southern California, but the stuff they passed off as edible food was more like dog food. I certainly won't go back.

After being dragged in, I gave this place another try. What a waste of calories! I decided to try one of their burritos as that is what they seem to be known for - the other items seemed pretty standard (i.e. tacos, quesadillas), so I decided to order the Epic Cali Steak & Guac Burrito. I could probably get over the fact that it was so poorly wrapped and mixed if it tasted good, but it was bland, way too many fries, guac was extremely limey - just overall very disappointing. I ordered the chili cheese nachos as well just to give them a try - she rang me up for the chili cheese fries which were more expensive - at least they ended up giving us the chili cheese nachos for free in addition to the chili cheese fries - except for the fact that they were both terrible. Let's just say that the fact that this place offers both burgers and tacos is strange and a big red flag that you probably should go somewhere else. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is the fact that they were extremely friendly and their hot sauces were pretty good.

Not edible. Maybe add good as taxi bell. When I hear people rave about this place I worry about the future of this country. The future of our children and their children. If you're drunk or high on some type of narcotic drug you may still enjoy it.

New "Buck and Under" menu! Fast service, ample portions and free wi-fi make this restaurant a great choice for fast food. Eat in or carry out, the drive-thru does a great job of moving the traffic.

OK, it's a Taco Bell clone. But I give them credit that they have the very same tacos that Taco Bell has but for 69 cents instead of $1.19. That's awesome! Great way to get your not very authentic Mexican fast food urge killed for way cheap. You can get stuffed for under $5 easily. Just don't bother with the 69 cent quesadilla. Seriously, don't bother.

Went to the drive through and had a little difficulty with the order. Checked the order before we got too far. Had crunchy with lettuce tacos instead of soft with no lettuce. Frustrated to go in but they were so nice and quick. Had an apology and a smile.
